Excerpt

I've always suffered with bad dreams. One night I dreamt of a thousand swaying trees. I dreamt of Sherwood Forest. In my slumber the leaves crackled. A flicker of light sparked, little flashes that threatened to set the forest alight. But I was not alone in my dream; I watched a man and woman hold each other in front of me. They kissed as flames sprung up around us all. The man's face was obscured by long hair, but I could see the woman clearly. It looked as if every kiss they shared only fed the fire that roared. I'd always had vivid dreams, but this was the most realistic of them all.

The couple backed up against a tall tree. The fire seemed to follow them with every step they made. The woman eagerly opened her legs to her lover. The man angled his hips, lifted his mate's legs, and drove into her in a single thrust. The noise she made when he did this was so intense, I could practically feel it myself. The woman flung her head back, and ground her hips against the man. I could feel the heat grow, could hear the loud grunts and moans. It was truly unreal.

The man suddenly withdrew, only to kneel on the grass to push the woman's dress up to her waist. The woman wore no underwear—I cautiously gazed at her neatly shaved pussy, and then looked away once the man started to lick and suck on her, spreading her lips wide apart as he devoured her. The fire grew with a burst as he brought the woman to orgasm. He held her still as she shook with the ferocity of her climax.

I moved a little closer, leaned over and watched as the man tilted his lover's face until her eyes reflected the grey sky. For a brief moment, I saw a slither of color twirl around her iris. A burst of purple exploded over eyes that were full of tears. When I heard an amazed gasp, I couldn't be sure if it had come from me or the man beside me.

The man kissed a wet trail from the base of his mate's neck, down to where her dress opened up over her breasts. The magical color faded from the woman's eyes, and she doubled over choking in the billowing smoke.

Just as quickly as the fire had spread, it ceased. I turned away from the sight, but as I did, felt the earth tremble beneath me. A ripple moved through the grass, disrupting the trees. The strange man ignored this—he only embraced the woman once more, hugging her tightly as the ground contorted around them.

"I can feel you," he said, with a voice that was raspy and dry. He abruptly dropped his mate, and moved towards me, pointing a finger in my direction. I was scared rigid—I had never had a dream like this before. I willed myself to wake up, but the dream would not fade. The man continued to approach me. His hair swayed as he walked forwards, hanging like a shroud over his face. He reached out further, touching my chest.

"I need you."

Thankfully I awoke at that, jerking upright in bed. I had to touch my chest, just to be sure, but all I felt was my thumping heart. I sighed with relief, my dream was over.

I rolled out of bed, stumbled to the bathroom on unsteady legs. As I splashed my face with cool water, I noticed something in the mirror. I looked down to see that the edge of my nightdress was scorched brown. The burnt fabric made me touch my chest once more. The dream had been real.
